All members of AIEU, AIE: Azeroth, or AIE: Telara … come join in the fun of the Running of the Johnsons!!!

Event: Running of the Johnsons
Time: July 31, 2011 at 9 EST
Duration: Approximately 2-2.5 hrs
Requirements: AIE Ventrilo access, EVE Online system requirements

Note if you are not an EVE player this event requires you to set up an EVE trial account (free) and download the game prior to the actual event (also free). Do this at least 24 hours in advance. See below for instructions.

Double note, EVE and AIEU is for mature players only. We request you be at least 18 years old to attend this event.

Running of the Johnsons is an EVE Online event for the Summer of Love 2011. Anyone of appropriate age in the AIE community, especially non-EVE players are welcome to take part in this event. In fact, this is designed to be a guided tour of EVE for the completely new player. All you need is Ventrilo, some time to set up, and our experienced EVE players will do the rest.

Set up
First, you need some set up time prior to the event. At least 24 hours in advance create an EVE trial account by following this link. Also download the game and test your log in. Once that is done, you are set up for event day. If you want to skip ahead and work on creating your character, that’s fine, too.

Event Start: Character creation, tutorials
At event start go ahead and log into Ventrilo and EVE. AIE’s regular EVE players will be on vent to help you with any specific questions. You have one hour to create your character and get the hang of flying your spaceship before we are off. Follow these character creation instructions exactly.

Character creation: Create a new character with the following characteristics:

Caldari
Male
Deteis

Name your character after your WoW main or handle with the last name being Johnson. So for example, “Dills Johnson” or “Warak Johnson.” This is critical as characters without the last name of Johnson won’t be allowed in the event as a security precaution. Now comes the fun part, creating your Johnson. Do your best to sculpt your avatar to look like our fearless leader, Scott Johnson. Amazing things can be done with the character creator, so do your thing. Here is a picture to try and get things just right:

Tutorial: After you create your character and push accept you will appear in your hangar and the game will run you through a few tutorials. If you are done with character creation before the hour is up, definitely run a couple to get the hang of some basic ship commands.

And we’re off to Jita!
We will join together in a huge fleet and roll out together. Our first stop is the player-made center of the universe, Jita. It is the largest trade hub in the game and 99% of the time is the busiest system in the game. Listen to your FC, or fleet commander, for basic fleet instructions.

Second stop, Fountain, home of AIEU
This is kind of a long trip, so hang in there, but it’ll be fun. Here’s the deal, though, you are all going to die. If you don’t die you are doing something wrong. We will be entering the most dangerous areas of the game and while TEST is friends with AIEU, they are neutral to our pack of Johnsons which means they will shoot us. Don’t get upset if you die, as that’s a big part of the game.

Event end
Once we have all been podded and are back in high sec, prizes will be awarded for the top 3 Johnson avatars. Feel free to stick around and ask questions to our EVE players. Thanks for coming out – if you have interest in joining AIEU, check out this site.

AIEU is going through some growth spurts these days and we’d like to take some time to both get to know the new folk and streamline our recruitment process to how we envisioned it to begin with. The interim process, while workable has us with less time to get to know our new corp mates.

For that reason, we are placing an indefinite hold on new applications starting 2011-05-05T00:00Z. Indefinite does not mean it’ll be super long, only that we’re not ready to announce a duration just yet.

We are now in the process of auditing the information that all members have entered in our database and TEST’s authentication system.

What is needed?

- Limited API keys for each character must be in our own database.
- Limited API keys for each character must be present in your profile on the TEST authentication system.
- You must have a TEST Teamspeak login.
- You must have a TEST Jabber login.

So Warak got the hotdrop bug last night and we had a little bit of fun.

The best moment came when Xystance decloaked at a gate camp and was engaged by the hostiles.  He dropped a cyno and they scampered away.

Then, when we didn’t bridge immediately, they crept back in and re-engaged.  WHOMP!

We will be holding a meeting for all corporation members on Thursday, April 14th, at 22:00 EDT / 19:00 PDT (April 15th, 01:00 UTC) in the Town-Hall channel on the Ventrilo server.
